Jacob Daly is Ruby Elizabeth Daly father. He worked as a police officer and was married to Ruby's mother, Susan Daly.
Early Life[]
Jacob was raised as a single child of Ruby "Grams" Daly and an unknown man. He became a police officer, and went on to marry a woman named Susan. He had one daughter, who he named named Ruby after his mother, and he raised her to be a good person.[1]
He and his family would routinely go on camping trips, and he would constantly cheer on for football games at his old high school. He would give a presentation on stranger danger to his daughter and her twenty four classmates when she was in the second grade. He was on the front lines when IAAN was taking place.[1]
Seven years after he joined the police department, he would shoot someone in a hostage situation, and he wouldn't tell his daughter what had happened. She would have to learn it from classmates.
The Darkest Minds[]
Jacob Daly would get into an argument with Susan over Ruby's tenth birthday celebration. They would fight even more when Ruby wonder's aloud about what it was like to die. After they eventually went to sleep, Ruby kissed him and Susan goodnight, accidentally using her abilities to erase all of his memories of her. The next morning he doesn't remember her. He and his wife, Susan, lock Ruby in the garage and call the cops. The PSFs arrive instead and take Ruby away.[1]
In The Afterlight[]
At some time between The Darkest Minds and In The Afterlight, Jacob and Susan realized that their memories of their daughter had been erased. After the rehabilitation camps were shut down, Jacob, his mother, and his wife traveled to the hospital where Ruby was recovering from an injury to her leg.
Ruby used her powers to reverse the memory wipe, returning their memories. They are overwhelmed at first, but eventually become even more loving and protective.
The Darkest Legacy[]
In The Darkest Legacy, Jacob was with Ruby at the park, when Gregory Mercer attempted to kidnap her. Jacob was shot, but not fatally. He doesn't appear again in the book.

Jacob is generally caring and protective of his family.[1]
Physical Description[]
Jacob is never described, but is presumed to have Ruby's dark hair and greens eyes.[citation needed]

Ruby "Grams" Daly[]
Grams is Jacob's mother. They have a relatively stable, positive relationship.
Susan Daly[]
Susan Daly is Jacob's wife. When IAAN was still relatively new, they had a strained relationship from their stress and anxiety, and tended to argue.[1] However, in In The Afterlight and The Darkest Legacy, their marriage seemed to have improved.
