About the Darkest Minds Trilogy
The Darkest Minds is a dystopian trilogy based in a world where disease called the 'IAAN' has plagued the country's children, killing off most of them around the ages of puberty. Those that manage to survive are labeled psi, due to their newly developed psychokinetic abilities.
Ruby, the main protagonist, is one of the surviving children and on her tenth birthday is taken away to a "rehabilitation camp" called Thurmond. She stays in that camp for six years. Ruby has no knowledge of what has happened to the country in the years she has been there and only knows that she has to do exactly what she is told to survive. Her only motivation is has to keep her secret. No one can know what she truly is, or else they could get hurt. She needed to protect them more than herself. When an anti-government organization called The Children’s League breaks her out of Thurmond, she soon realizes that not everything is as it seems. The world is a lot more complicated than she thought it was, and she quickly finds herself on the run with another group of kids who have managed to escape from their own camp. After a series of events Ruby finds herself in tough situations, mentally challenging problems and unlikely friendships.
